Open any women's magazine, web page or watch TV and you will be deluged with various slimming programmes, some fairly successful and others just plain bizarre. The important aspect for you as the consumer or purchaser is that the slimming programme that you select suits you, your lifestyle and most importantly is not a short lived fix.
If you want to lose weight and crucially want to remain that way, you need to embark on a slimming programme that changes the way that you think about food and yourself, that is a lifestyle change. All of us have been caught in the yo yo diet trap at some time, those slimming programmes where the results of all your efforts last for maybe a month or a little longer, that approaches the issue of weight loss from the wrong end, they purely restrict the amount of calorie intake and often insist on an exhausting and unmanageable exercise programme and before you realise it, your weight has ballooned to more than you were when you started and so it starts again!
A really successful slimming programme will look at you holistically, every aspect of you, it will support you to think differently about food, address your relationship with food and the way that you use food, will show you how and supports you to deal with your food cravings, eating only when you are hungry and will continue its effect even while you are asleep.
You need to have support with the way that you view yourself; an ideal slimming programme would have a support mechanism of some description, perhaps a mentor either face to face or via a blog or email and an achievable exercise programme. What it won't have is a diet, in general diets don't work, a diet may be successful all the time that you are conforming with the regime but most of us are not able to sustain a restricted eating plan for too long and as soon as you start to resume normal eating patterns, the weight starts to pile back on, plus more besides and before you know where you are you are thrown into that yo yo pattern that we all know of old.
You will see adverts in magazines, on the TV and on the internet for pills and potions. These are at best ineffective as they work on your appetite to suppress it but at worst can potentially be highly dangerous. This is using chemicals to tackle something that can and should be dealt with in a very much more natural and healthy way. The effects of suppressing your appetite will produce results all of the time that you are taking the drugs but this is not medication that you would want to be taking permanently, the price would be prohibitive let alone the effect on your general health but as soon as you stop taking the drugs your normal appetite will return and you will start to pile on all of the weight you have lost, plus more.
Exercise is a really important part of any successful slimming programme, you just cannot escape from that fact, it is probably the part of the programme that you like the least, however, no decent weight loss programme whichever way it is structured will be successful without some type of exercise element. The part of exercise during a slimming programme that makes it so difficult to maintain is the amount and level of exercise, everyday at the gym for hours on end is completely unsustainable for much longer than a week. A manageable programme of exercise that you can complete when and where you want to is much easier to sustain, look out for a slimming programme that incorporates an achievable exercise element, which compliments and works with the remainder of the programme. It is a huge temptation to ignore the exercise element, especially if it is the part that you find most difficult but it would be a big mistake to not partake, even a small amount of exercise helps you to feel better about yourself and has a definite positive effect on your self esteem and is also self fulfilling as the more exercise you do the more you feel encouraged to do.
Being overweight leaves you much more exposed to ill health, diabetes, coronary heart disease, asthma, arthritis and some types of cancer are all much more common in overweight individuals. Obesity is a westernised world major health issue in both adults and children. That is the most important, maybe incentive to embark on a slimming programme and finding one which addresses you as a whole person and looks at every aspect of you is what you should be undertaking.
Be very selective before you embark on a slimming programme, there are many that will not help you to achieve what you desire, it is better to do some research and start with a programme that offers all of the above requirements, that will enable you to make a lifestyle change not a temporary dress size change. A programme that has experts on hand to show you how and support you to become the person that you have always longed to be. Go ahead start your research today.
